IT'S PUMPKIN SPICE SEASON + I'M BRINGING THE KIDS ALONG WITH ME
I love Autumn as much as any basic white girl waits in anticipation for PSL season and Ugg weather. It is the superior season and now that I have my own children I'm determined to find ways to include Autumn in all its glory in their day to day.
There's something so nostalgic about Autumn for me. Something in the air, the smoky cedar smells, the crunch of the leaves, the cooler evenings and foggy misty mornings that awakes the inner child in me. Autumn was such a fun, exciting, playful, magical season for me as child and I want to replicate that for my own children. Here are some things I've found that I not only love, but my children do as well. I'm determined to make memories together for Autumns to come.
Autumn Nature Unit Study (ages 4+): find them on Etsy here.
"Boo" your neighbors or your kiddos friends. In essence, leave them a goodie bag with fall treats and such, and leave it at their door for them to find, don't tell them who it's from and encourage them to "boo" another neighbor themselves. See the photo below for more info.
Paint pumpkins, or pick up wooden leaf and/or pumpkin ornaments from the dollar tree to paint and hang up in your home.
Visit the local pumpkin patch. Or two of them. Or three.
Go apple picking and then make fresh apple crisp with the apples (yes it's superior to apple pie, here's my favorite recipe).
Plan an All Saints Day party with friends around Halloween (find party details here).
Spend morning's outside, cozied up in a warm blanket or sweater, watching the sun rise, watching the hummingbirds (favorite DIY humming bird food here) and sipping a warm drink.
Go on a nature walk and collect leaves to bring home and make this paper doll/fairy leaf craft.
Scrapbook together, let them pick out some stickers or stamps at Michaels and give them a scrapbook page to "decorate" before you put photos on it. My favorite place to print 100 4x6's every month (cost effective + good quality).
Plant Mums together.
Have a backyard picnic now that the weather is cooler.
Some of my favorite autumn recipes to include the kiddos in together (they taste great paired with sparkling cider or "special juice" as my kids call it):
Avery's Favorite Soup (he requests it when fall + hunting season hits)
